A Good Parent Teacher Association Is Important and Very Useful!
What is the importance of a Parent Teacher Association (PTA)? That's a question I received from Rajasree
My Answer: I take it by your question that either your school doesn't have a PTA or is thinking of organizing one, which is a good thing. Your school and the local community should work as a partnership. The parents of the students in your school are very much a part of the whole situation. Now in some schools, the parents think they own the school and have all the power. But in most cases, the parents work hand in hand with the administration of the school and the teachers. If there is a PTA or School Council, they often want to raise money for the school so that their children and students of the school can get extra gym equipment, books, new technology, extra money for the classroom, etc. They organize fund raisers, bake sales, book fairs, fun fairs to raise the money. To me, it has been an advantage to have parents working for the school, volunteering in the library or helping in the classroom and raising money for the school. The teachers organizing end of the year tea or luncheon for the association is a really nice added touch and greatly appreciated. Hopefully, Rajasree, you will consider having a PTA or School Council in your school. It is a win-win opportunity.
